Only Island Cove residents have access to our 2 acre island that lines the beautiful Animas River. Stroll along the island for a simple nature walk or relax on our wood crafted benches and observe wildlife or watch the kayakers play as they navigate down the river.

OUR COMMUNITY GARDEN – A NEIGHBORHOOD GATHERING PLACE

We have big dreams for the quality of life that occurs by digging your fingers below soil level. Get down to earth and create whatever you desire! We have a fully fenced community garden with 8 garden plots, with more to come! We're always improving Island Cove. Contact us to let us know what else you envision in your ideal community.

COMMUNITY GATHERING FUN!

 

At Island Cove, we strive to create ways for our community to connect. Here are just a few:

 

Spring & Fall Community Yard Sale – Not sure what to do with all your stuff? This community yard sale helps residents keep their homes nice and tidy and also a great way to meet your neighbor.

Holiday Light Contest –  Decorate your home to the hilt during the holiday season...festive and fun for all.

Summer Ice Cream Socials – Who doesn't love ice cream? It's even better with neighbors and laughter.

Community Fire Pit – Enjoying an evening by the fire with friends or with a mug of warm cocoa is hearwarming. Coming soon!

One of the magical parts of in-town Durango living is being able to walk, bike, or take a short drive to nearly everything you need. Whether you crave local ice cream, need an item to grill, or would like to walk your kid to school, much of your world is only a few steps away from Island Cove.

Chapman Hill Community Center

Features an in-town roller/ice skate and ski facility. During the winter, this is an excellent indoor ice skating rink and the hill provides access to affordable skiing, snowboarding and tubing. Hike up the Lion's Den trail from the trailhead at Chapman Hill for magnificent views of Durango.

Elementary School

Riverview Elementary is only a 8 minute walk or a quicker bike northeast.

Art and Galleries

Culture, music, dance... Durango is full of arts culture from funky to fine art. Experience it all on foot.

Grocery Store and Farmers Market

Get your ramen noodles, veggies, grill items... whatever you crave is only a 7 minute walk.

Bus/Trolley Stop

From the entrance to Island Cove, take the bus everywhere! Hiking Animas Trail, Biking Horse Gulch, take a College course... it’s all close by.

Direct Access to the Animas River

Residents will enjoy direct access to the Animas River which flows down from the rugged San Juan Mountains. The river is an amazing recreational resource which boasts whitewater boating, fly fishing and inner tubing in the lazy days of summer. The seven mile Animas River trail and the famous Durango/Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad lies directly across the river from Island Cove.
